On 22nd October, representatives of the Embassy of Finland in the Russian Federation paid a one-day visit to Penza State University. The delegation comprised Merja Lahtinen, the Embassy minister-counsellor, and Toivo Martikainen, an assistant secretary.

Within the framework of the visit the guests met Alexander Gulyakov, Rector of Penza State University. He acquainted the Embassy representatives with the University history, structure, notable students and graduates. The Rector emphasized the development of international cooperation at University and its implementation within educational, creative and research spheres. Besides, A. Gulyakov shared his experiences of his visits to Finnish higher educational establishments.

Then the guests had a round table with the students from the Institute of Economics and Administration. Professor Viktor Volodin, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Director of the Institute, opened the meeting with his welcoming speech. Merja Lahtinen and Toivo Martikainen presented information about the history and current social and economic state of Finland. “With good reason Finland was acknowledged to be the happiest country in the world in 2018 and 2019. This indicator is achieved as a combination of many factors, including one of the best educational systems, independent judiciary system, as well as colossal level of trust of citizens to their government”, emphasized the minister-counsellor of the Embassy of Finland.

The students had an opportunity to ask questions concerning the specific features of Finnish educational system, international students exchange, structure of human capital, migration processes, the level of unemployment. The teachers were interested in state social guarantees: pensionary support, “maternity package”, healthcare.

In the course of the visit of the Embassy of Finland representatives, arrangements on further cooperation were made.
