On Thursday, April 6, UNESCO Chair in Journalism and Communication at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, a partner university of the Department of Journalism at the Faculty of History, Languages and Literature, Penza State University, hosted the 7th International Scientific and Practical Conference “Models of teaching international journalism for the purpose of sustainable development”. Galina Zueva, Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism, took part in it online.

At the conference, the participants talked about freedom in journalism and journalistic education, the need to adopt international standards in this area, which will contribute to its democratization. Representatives of UNESCO departments in journalism from other cities of Kazakhstan arrived, as well as heads of centers for the study of international journalism from the USA, Great Britain, Hungary, Poland, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Nepal.

Galina Zueva, Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism, presented the report “Stress factors in the work of Russian journalists”. It is dedicated to the professional stress of media workers as a problem that exists in Penza as well. Galina conducted a study based on an anonymous sociological survey of journalists aged 18 to 60 years.

“It turned out that Penza journalists, on average, rate the stressfulness of their profession at 7 points out of 10. As factors provoking stress, almost all journalists named tight deadlines for reporting, 50% noted that multitasking affects stress, 37% indicated emotional difficulties: you often take other people’s stories too much to heart; the same number of respondents complained about the unpredictability of the behavior of the characters with whom they have to communicate (mostly young journalists aged 18–35 years old noted this),” said Galina Zueva about the results of her study.

The audience of the conference was the first and fourth year students of the Department of Journalism. For the 19ИЖ1 group, the reports were especially interesting in the context of the course "Modern Foreign Media".
