An official visit to Penza State University by a delegation of representatives of the Consulate of Turkmenistan in the Russian Federation took place on Monday, October 16. Consul General Guych Garayev and Second Secretary Ashirali Nazarov met with PSU Rector Aleksandr Guliakov. The parties discussed cooperation in the educational field.

Currently, 253 citizens of Turkmenistan are studying at Penza State University. Aleksandr Guliakov noted that students actively show their worth both in their studies and extracurricular activities.

Vice-Rector for International Affairs of the University Gleb Sintsov emphasized that over the past three years, the number of students from Turkmenistan studying at PSU has grown more than 20 times: in 2021, there were only 8 students from the country. The most popular fields of study, according to Gleb Sintsov, are “Linguistics”, “Pedagogical Education (English)”, “Psychology”, “General Medicine” and “Dentistry”.

Guych Garayev thanked Rector Aleksandr Guliakov for the attention paid to students. An agreement was reached to increase the number of Turkmen students at PSU. The Consul General reminded that since 2023, the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan has again included Penza State University in the list of universities whose diplomas are recognized in the state. Guych Garayev cited data showing that the youth of Turkmenistan are aimed at getting an education in Russia.

The constructive dialogue touched upon the issues of studying the Russian language by students from abroad. Aleksandr Guliakov expressed his intentions to continue paying close attention to this issue, further intensifying the linguistic training programme for international students.

The programme of the visit continued with communication with students. At a meeting with PSU international students from Turkmenistan, Consul General Garayev Guych paid special attention to issues related to studies, rules of behavior in the region and compliance with the laws of the Russian Federation. A conversation was held aimed at preventing terrorist and extremist activities and preventing offenses in the field of drug trafficking.

The students were reminded of the obligation of foreign citizens and stateless persons to undergo the state fingerprint registration procedure in accordance with Federal Law dated July 1, 2021 No. 274-FZ. In addition, during the meeting, issues of rules of staying in PSU halls of residence and rules of behavior on the territory of the university were raised.
