Being the oldest at Penza State University (its history goes back to 1939), the Faculty of History, Languages and Literature has been growing steadily, changing outwardly and inwardly, accepting advanced methods of teaching history, foreign languages, Russian language, Russian and world literature, journalism and law. Multilingual and boisterous, the faculty is a fine example of blending various fields of the humanities.

Harmonising three divisions (Faculty of History, Faculty of Russian Language and Literature, and Faculty of Foreign Languages), it has absorbed the best traditions of cultivating students’ intellectual curiosity, increasing their language proficiency, fostering their critical thinking and effective writing. Many generations of lecturers and students have been creating a solid foundation for classical education in the humanities.

Faculty students are well-known not only for their excellent professional skills, but also for their creativity, active engagement in extra-curriculars and sheer positivism. They not only amaze their teaching staff with conscientious academic work, but with remarkable results of their participation in archaeological excavations at ancient cultural sites. They successfully combine their studies with first-hand experience of working in the media. Additionally, they participate in various international programmes.
