III Interuniversity cricket tournament among Indian students ended with Holi festival of colours
On May 14, 2017 Hindu festival of colours Holi was held on Trud stadium of Penza State University. This event coincided with the finals of the III Interuniversity cricket tournament among Indian students.
The tournament was attended by 11 teams of Indian students from 4 Russian cities: Voronezh, Kursk, Saratov and Penza. The sports event brought together more than 150 participants. There were also 2 women teams. Following the semi-finals results, the finals welcomed the team of Penza State University and the team of Kursk State Medical University. The game was very exciting and unpredictable. Throughout the game Penza team had the lead, but at the last minute luck turned to the team from Kursk.
The team “Kursk hunters” from Kursk State Medical University became the winner of the III Interuniversity cricket tournament among Indian students. The second place was occupied by the team “Penza Spartans” from Penza State University.
The parade of teams took place at the closing ceremony of the tournament, while the active students of the Institute of International Cooperation presented flash mob dance in Indian style for the tournament participants.
Prof. Sergei M. Vasin, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, welcomed the participants on behalf of Alexander D. Guliakov, Rector of PSU, and congratulated the winners of the tournament. He also wished them good luck in their learning activity. “We hosted this tournament for the third time and think that such events facilitate positive interethnic cooperation among international students. The sports events also ensure social adaptation of students to living and studying conditions in our university,” Prof. Sergei M. Vasin noted.
After the award ceremony Hindu festival of colours Holi was arranged. Trud stadium turned into the cradle of colours, positive emotions and dances that were accompanied by dynamic and beautiful Indian music.
The tournament was organised by the Association of Indian students of PSU with the assistance of the Institute of International cooperation and the Institute of Sports and Physical Training, Penza State University.
